TRICARE Reserve Select

Hawaii National Guard and Reserve members and families. Works like TRICARE Select: no referral needed to start.

PCS and veterans

Care that moves with you.

A PCS in the middle of physical therapy usually means starting over with a new referral, a new waitlist and a new therapist. Video care can often continue with the same therapist in any of the seven states where Dr. Shalem is licensed. Coverage depends on the new region and plan; we check before the move.

Veterans can ask their VA provider for a pelvic floor physical therapy consult through VA community care. How it works for veterans in Hawaii.

How it works

How a virtual visit works

Most of pelvic floor physical therapy is education, breathing and pressure management, movement retraining, and a home program. All of it works on camera. During the evaluation, Dr. Shalem guides a self-assessment so she can see how the pelvic floor is coordinating with breath and movement. An internal examination is not possible by video; if a hands-on assessment would change the plan, she says so and helps the patient find local care.
