Visits and cost
How much does pelvic floor physical therapy cost?
With in-network insurance, a visit costs the plan's physical therapy copay or coinsurance, commonly $20 to $60 per visit after any deductible. Private-pay telehealth pelvic floor therapy typically runs $150 to $300 for an evaluation and $100 to $200 for follow-ups, and a superbill can be submitted for out-of-network reimbursement.

What to know
Answered by the practice of Dr. Elana Shalem, DPT, pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapist.
Insurance benefits for physical therapy vary by plan: some have a flat copay, some apply coinsurance after a deductible, and some cap the number of visits per year. A practice should verify benefits before the first visit and tell the patient what to expect.
Private pay is often simpler than it sounds. A superbill is an itemized receipt with the diagnosis and procedure codes; many PPO plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network care when it is submitted. HSA and FSA cards can be used for physical therapy.
EMS Therapy is in-network with several plans depending on the state and offers private pay everywhere, with superbills provided and HSA/FSA accepted. Private-pay rates are quoted on the free 15-minute discovery call so they can be compared with the patient's actual insurance benefit.

How it works
How a virtual visit works
Most of pelvic floor physical therapy is education, breathing and pressure management, movement retraining, and a home program. All of it works on camera. During the evaluation, Dr. Shalem guides a self-assessment so she can see how the pelvic floor is coordinating with breath and movement. An internal examination is not possible by video; if a hands-on assessment would change the plan, she says so and helps the patient find local care.

Questions
Common follow-up questions
What do I pay with insurance?
Your plan's physical therapy copay or coinsurance after any deductible. EMS Therapy verifies the exact amount before the first visit. In-network plans: TRICARE, HMSA and HMSA QUEST in Hawaii; Medicare and Aetna in Florida; CareFirst, Medicare and Aetna in Maryland; Aetna in New York.
What does a private-pay visit cost?
Private-pay rates are quoted on the free 15-minute discovery call, so the quote matches the visit type and the plan of care. The evaluation is 60 minutes and follow-ups are 45, one-on-one with the therapist.
Can I get reimbursed if EMS Therapy is out of network for my plan?
Often, yes. Many PPO plans pay part of out-of-network physical therapy. EMS Therapy provides a superbill after every visit to submit to the plan; what comes back depends on the out-of-network deductible and coinsurance.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Physical therapy is a qualified medical expense, and HSA and FSA cards are accepted for private-pay visits and copays.
How many visits will I need?
Most pelvic floor plans of care run 6 to 12 visits over two to three months, every one to two weeks, with a short home program between visits. The evaluation sets the plan.
