How many physical therapy visits does chronic pelvic pain syndrome take?
Most plans for chronic pelvic pain syndrome run 8 to 16 visits over two to four months, every one to two weeks, with a short home program between visits. The evaluation sets the plan and it is adjusted as things change.

What to know
Answered by the practice of Dr. Elana Shalem, DPT, pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapist.
The program teaches the pelvic floor to relax and lengthen, retrains breathing to break the brace pattern, uses self-treatment techniques for trigger points in the pelvic floor, hips, and abdomen, and rebuilds sitting tolerance and activity. Pain education and flare planning are part of it. Dr. Shalem coordinates with the urologist.
Progress is measured against the patient's own goals at each visit, and most people notice change within the first three or four weeks. The later visits are about making it last: progressing load, handling flare-ups, and building the habits that keep symptoms from returning.
Insurance plans may cap the number of visits per year; that is checked before the first visit. Private-pay rates are quoted on the free discovery call, and a superbill is provided for out-of-network reimbursement.

How it works
How a virtual visit works
Most of pelvic floor physical therapy is education, breathing and pressure management, movement retraining, and a home program. All of it works on camera. During the evaluation, Dr. Shalem guides a self-assessment so she can see how the pelvic floor is coordinating with breath and movement. An internal examination is not possible by video; if a hands-on assessment would change the plan, she says so and helps the patient find local care.
